"Discrimination - Free Zones"
California Resolution: ACR 82 - Passes

The latest sham and legislative manipulation over “intolerance” and “discrimination” is the ACR 82 Bill. This resolution is an unnecessary action by our Legislature. As an organization that passionately supports equity and respect for all of our students, we have grave concerns about this bill creating “Discrimination-Free Zones” in our schools. First of all, should our schools simply enforce existing anti-harassment policies for all of our students, and respond to complaints without bias, in a timely fashion, there would be no need for even discussion around “Discrimination-Free Zones”. Plain and simple, our free speech is under attack!

Secondly, the problem with this and other such resolutions and proclamations, is that they are heavily promoted by GLSEN. How then, would “discrimination” be defined and who would be allowed define it? We believe that it will solely be defined through the lens of the GLBT lobby, which is very active in the GLSEN organization in our schools, and it systematically seeks to assert their own viewpoint through signs and notices, in which the public has been conditioned to associate with the homosexual agenda.

ACR 82 as written, is as protected-class neutral as any resolution can be written. However, this resolution, though reasonable on its face, is but a fig-leaf for the GLBT and their incessant lobbying effort. Surely, it should protect all students who would assemble publicly on campus, but our concern is that not all groups will be granted the same privileges or protection under this resolution. This is part of a lobby effort to promote one group and one group only, the GLBT special interest group. Therefore, we will see yet more intimidation and bullying of any student found to assert a viewpoint that differs from the GLBT opinion.

It remains appalling that the Legislature, knowingly ranking in the bottom quintile of public opinion, would spend Californian’s tax dollars on such drivel.  The Legislature instead should accomplish solutions to fully fund Proposition 98-imposed education funding. It should be addressing job and revenue growth; debt-reduction; deal with over-crowded prisons, and rebuilding the crumbling public infrastructure. California deserves a legislative body that is responsive to all people of California.  Our Legislature will face the voters again in November of this year and parliamentary actions such as ACR 82 will not be forgotten on that first Tuesday.

We do not want bullying to be encouraged in our schools, but that is what will happen now that this resolution hass passed. We do support “Discrimination Free Zones”, but S.E.R.V.E. Alameda would have liked to have had "discrimination" fine-tuned to know what it means for all protected classes, not just one. This makes sense to us, since it's the same argument we've had with our very own AUSD over the exclusive-to-one-group monopoly on “anti-bullying”. It's better read, "protected class", since just one group is not only "protected" but nurtured, coddled and promoted by the GLBT Lobby and our Legislature. Parents Beware.
